Andrew Salkeld is self-taught, contemporary painter based in Toronto, Canada. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen's University and worked in retail merchandising before deciding to pursue his artistic inclinations.
As a creative and expressive individual, he studied music, dance and theatre growing up and performed in local musicals and plays. During the pandemic, he borrowed his father's paint supplies and began exploring the visual arts.
Since then, he has dedicated his time to his painting practice and started sharing his work with art collectors at art fairs in 2023.
THE STORY:
My work revolves around the intangible elements of what makes us human - our thoughts and emotions.
Less concerned with representing a person realistically, I strive to create evocative figures that speak to our collective fears, struggles and anxieties.
Characterized by expressive mark making, bold contrasts in colour saturation and abstraction, my paintings strike a balance between emotional states and the resiliency that comes from working through them.
*Please note: Purchased works are available for pickup on Sat. Oct 5th from 12-3pm, otherwise, arrangements will be made between collectors and buyers directly following the Art Circuit.
