@caillin.lovesick

Born in Hamilton, Ontario Caillin has studied art at Sheridan College, Classical Animation at Algonquin College, and Artifact Conservation at Sir Sandford Flemming College in Peterborough Ontario.

He has used his artistic talents while working for his own illustration and art practice under the name Lovesick Designs, as well as formerly a Conservation Technician for the Canada Science and Technology Museum Corporation, curator for the Warplane Heritage Museum and currently a goldsmith at a local jeweller.

Caillin's work has often focused on the interplay of art, architecture and sense of place through acrylic paintings and miniature model work. He has also competed in live Art Battles, progressing to nationals in 2023. Artistic highlights include a residency in St. Andrews by the Sea, New Brunswick in 2018, and the cityscape model ”The Galvanized City”  in a VW bug as part of Winterfest in 2023.

THE STORY:

My work has focused on the interplay of art, architecture and sense of place. In my ongoing series of paintings "I'm so lost and I live just around the corner" I borrows a line from local band the Arkells, as the inspiration to explore the lines of urban architecture and hidden places. This love of architecture has led me to also explore the world of miniature model making in various materials.  Further artworks focus on an illustrative style with a pop of colour, influenced by nature, pop culture, graffiti, and sequential art.
For this exhibit I plan to create a painting of the local Playhouse theatre, connecting the stories of this iconic theatre and the movies they play.
