Mikolaj Blicharski is an artist from Warsaw, Poland who's lived in Hamilton for over a decade. Being an immigrant has made him an outsider in Canada from a young age and has given him a keen and critical eye. Mikolaj calls himself a Hybrid artist. He mixes mediums, cultures and ideas.
In 2006 he graduated from the Illustration program at Sheridan College and since then, Mikolaj has traveled to South Korea, lived in a monastery, worked in the animation industry, published children's books and worked odd jobs in factories and kitchens. All the while pursuing the dream of bringing his thoughts and visions to life for the public.
THE STORY:
An artists job is to teeter on the edge of the old and the new; walk the razors edge between the know and unknown and to create images that not only look good but make you stop, think and look a little closer.
I fuse old European folklore, pop culture, and knowledge of fundamentals into images that may look normal from a distance but contain layers of meaning and mystery for those that dare to look.
There is no overt meaning or message in the work but rather, it is left to open interpretation by the viewer.
