Nate X (Canadian, b.1972) Spent his formative years studying art under the tutelage of Canadian painter Robert Herman, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Toronto School of Art, where he learned the techniques of traditional painting. The direction of his artistic practice shifted dramatically over the years as he developed a personal language to better express his feelings and ideas as an alternative to established ways of thinking about art.
At first glance his work presents wild, bold figures and forms, palpable spaces and moods that present narratives of what we think is going on. But only when we lean in does the artist want you to see that the tales these images compose are of much deeper, hidden stories. The artist’s ambition is to create works where the viewer not only stands before it, but within them. Searching for the buried treasures bounded by the canvas. A portal to transport and transform in a moment of quiet transcendence.
His works are featured internationally in both public and private collections. The artist currently lives and works in Toronto, ON.
THE STORY:
You will never truly value a moment until it becomes a memory.
I like the idea of this series where removing the surroundings from everyday items creates a pure interaction between viewer and image, bringing out each subjects raw personality and challenging the viewer without environmental cues.
