Christian (Pomps) is an interdisciplinary artist from Hamilton, Ontario. Being a recent graduate from York University, his work centres around storytelling and usually contains technological and urban motifs. He loves music, fashion and pop culture and enjoys incorporating references to these interests in his pieces. Aside from his illustrations, Christian has also self-published two volumes of an original manga series, worked on several indie games and created a fictional band.
THE STORY:
How long will it take before science fiction becomes our reality? Are we already living in a dystopia?
My work aims to comment on our relationships with technology, social media and pop culture as they have unapologetically woven themselves into our lives. The pieces depict humanity in a jaded state, unbothered and accepting of the impact that these things have on our lives. I believe that we are living in a transitionary period. Everything is being produced, improved and consumed so quickly that we may become lost and overwhelmed if we don't slow down and appreciate the present. My pieces are filled with hidden references to familiar iconography so that their viewers can do just that. I want to reward people for taking the time to closely examine because it seems to have become a lost art in our world today.
