Duchesne is a full-time drawing professor at Sheridan College, in the School of Animation, Arts and Design.

Duchesne's is best known for two major periods of work, large format drawings on Mylar, talk about the intricate nature of grieving, and its impact on an individual’s evolving sense of self.

In the second major body of work, this focus on the processes of grieving has been replaced with a different conversation and exploration; that of sexuality. These mixed media pieces celebrate the animal pleasures of womanhood. They assert a human being’s right to enjoy and explore the body and the influences that shape our self- perception. Fierceness of delight is exemplified by sharp contrasts of media, texture, value and imagery. Collaged pieces of linocut prints (goats, patterns) bump and grind against outrageously-colored, drawn and painted Barbie legs and curly-haired vaginas and penises. Graphic in both senses of the word, these compositions are as full of humorous juxtapositions and energetic diagonals as their suggestive titles imply.

In the current body work Duchesne moves into experimental video, photography and drawing. As the protagonist, Duchesne explores the notion of the Self Portrait, as witness and performer. The story continues.

THE STORY:

Do you remember times when you were bored off your nut as a kid, playing that game of staring at your own face in the mirror? You'd persist, to see if a trick of vision would turn you into a distorted, terrifying monster.

Or maybe it was a trip you took in college, baked, fried and thoroughly 'shroommed, that set you off on the path to enlightenment. You could be hypnotized and paralyzed by a casual glimpse of yourself in a pane of glass.

In an evolution of self-awareness.
the digital age offers up of apps and play, rivalry, strategy, or struggle, we create a new game- we want and wait for others to gaze at our reflections, validation thru like and subscribe. So, I have to ask…
