11.5" x 35” banner
ink and acrylic on canvas, brass grommets
Love and hate are the same emotion, born out of passion and fuelled by intense synapses in the brain, and yet when we think of love or hate, we imagine the heart.
The heart symbol is an ideograph that dates back to 5th century B.C. and was inspired by the shape of the fruit of the Silphium plant, and somehow became a representative symbol for love.
This banner features gold paint and the title was inspired by the the famous quote from The Outsiders when Ponyboy recites a poem by Robert Frost to Johnny as he is dying in a hospital bed - the boys are referring to their childhood innocence and their idyllic friendship that they are naively resisting the ending of. The same concept that "all good things must come to an end" is explored in this painting, even though we all strive to Stay Gold and maintain a sense of fanciful innocence in love forever, it is not always possible. But there is a way to Stay Gold when it comes to love and the Self; this banner is meant to be a visual reminder to strive for truth and beauty and love and peace in one's own heart in addition to striving for love with others.
This banner is a painted interpretation of the I (Heart) Art series of prints that you can see here. If you like this one-of-a-kind banner but it is sold out, please get in touch with the artist here to inquire about commissioning a similar piece.
