THE STORY:
The idea of before and after is usually seen as an improvement for people, but in this case, can you even tell what's before and what's after? My project is focused on Ali, my cousin, who has never been outside of Gaza. Today, having him here is my way of showing him the world outside. Ali symbolizes all the children in Palestine. The blur of his figure and the ink-covered words show how these children are disregarded by world leaders and people, rendering Ali almost like a ghost, as if he doesn't exist. The scratched-out words represent their voices being silenced and their words deemed insignificant. In contrast, a scene from pre-1948 Palestine...
The rest is for you to figure out, for you to feel without a bio telling you how to feel. Paint your own explanations, whether positive or negative. At the end of the day, it really is up to you.
Proceeds from this project will be directed to Ali.
