Commissioned by the AGH and painted live during the Above & Beyond Gala
An homage to Helen McNicoll’s The Apple Gatherer (shown in last image), this piece was commissioned to be painted live at the Art Gallery of Hamilton during the Above & Beyond Gala fundraising dinner and auction.
McNicoll’s thematic exploration of women’s work is referenced in this piece through the silhouettes of apple pickers - a repetition of the main figure in The Apple Gatherer. McNicoll managed to capture women’s everyday worklife experiences through scenic landscape imagery with a focus on light, shadow and atmospheric serenity. She was described as having “an eye for the poetic” which inspired the title of this piece.
