The intention behind this sculptural work is to prompt viewers to question how our society deals with addressing the physical and mental ailments that affect our community. This sculptural expression is inspired by LaCaria’s past personal experiences in which she’s found herself on the receiving end of doctors who are eager to prescribe medication to mask the physical symptoms that accompany stress, anxiety and insomnia, but it was only after LaCaria sought refuge in natural environments that she noticed her overall health improving. LaCaria hopes to remind viewers that while medication may be necessary for some illnesses and conditions, the often-forgotten remedy of being in nature can expedite healing.
The plastic amber bottles in this work captured the sun and refracted yellow/orange light onto the plinth base, giving the appearance the bottles were “glimmering” in the sun - an intentional reference to the healing power of vitamin D and sunshine. LaCaria collected organic material from the beloved Burlington hiking trails and public parks that offer local residents an opportunity to find refuge in nature.
LaCaria is pleased that the timing of this exhibition was at the start of the spring season when people were eager to get back to enjoying outdoor time with the coming of better weather.
