Things are not always what they seem. During a storm, the surface of the ocean is in a state of chaos, disruption, violence. But that doesn’t mean the entire body of water is. Even during a hurricane, a mere 300 feet beneath the surface of the ocean, the water is calm, seemingly unmoving, affected only by the usual flow of currents. Imagine being a fish, swimming in the ocean, 350 feet deep, and your entire world feels peaceful, typical, safe, until you take a short trip to the surface of the water and start to experience alarming changes to your environment. It can seem that suddenly your entire reality has become threatening. Except, from an outside perspective, it’s obvious that the storm is really only affecting a certain volume of the ocean, not the entire ocean. It’s up to you, as the fish, to brave the storm, to travel to the surface, to go with the flow of the current, to brace for impact in the violent waves, to face your fears and challenges with an open and courageous heart, all the while remembering that there is still peace to be found deep within. The storm is not everywhere. It’s only on the surface.
