Toy sheep and tiger, plexiglass, wood, metal chain
2025

They tried to contain us.
They told us who we are, what we can do, how to be.
We tried to listen, and for a long while we did comply; but we cannot be contained.
We’re not meant to live in small, tidy boxes.
We’re meant to venture outside of the confines.
We’re rebelling against the limiting beliefs that we’re meant for less.
We’ve found there’s power in community. We’re united. We’re unstoppable.
We’re tired of living with no room to breathe.
We can overcome anything with the support of the herd.

*This piece was originally created as No Room To Breathe (watch the "making of" video of that piece here but was knocked off the wall during opening night of the Easy Tiger group show at BSide Gallery - the artist interpreted this unfortunate event as a message from the sheep who refused to be contained. This reworked version of the original sculpture was made from the salvaged pieces of the broken sculpture - no attempt to clean or restore any broken plexiglass or wood was made. Unlike it's first iteration, this piece is complete with the smudgey fingerprints that resulted from fellow artists gathering its contents off the floor, showing the scratches and ripped glue remnants left behind from the damage. Oftentimes a reinvention of oneself comes with battle scars, and that's also the case for this work.

Continued thanks to curators Laura Heaney and Jill Letten for the invitation to participate in this show.
