We all know that feeling of feeling of being "stuck" in a life situation that just isn't progressing at the rate we're hoping it will - whether it be career, relationships, friendships, personal goals... those times when momentum drops off can make us feel stagnant and frustrated. But what if those times are actually opportunities, not stagnancy - a sense of "quiet" that exists only between the ending of one phase and the beginning of a new one?
The time “in between” life’s chapters often feels frustrating, like you're trapped in a type of purgatory. But that's not the case. The time that follows the end of a chapter also marks the beginning of a new one, and it's actually an opportunity!
A time of peace before something new begins. For the restless and impatient, this can feel like torture. For those of us who are used to propelling ourselves forward in constant motion, the space in between “what was” and “what’s to come” is infuriating, suffocating and feels unproductive. But that is because we’ve been looking at it all wrong. The space in between change is a gift. A reminder that the NOW is the only reality that exists and that the very moments that feel stuck are just as productive and valuable as the moments of glorious success, maybe even more productive than the others.
This painting is a reminder to take a moment to enjoy the pause between chapters. To breathe deeply, to appreciate the stillness before motion sets in again. A reminder that the slow beating pulse that courses through your veins will once again quicken with excitement, joy and success; the magic is bound to return in the next chapter.
This collection explores a return to basics, both in the principles of art and design, but also as this relates to oneself after a period of trauma and recovery. The paintings in this collection feature static geometry and saturated pure hues (shapes and colours are the first principles of design we learn about as children). This collection demonstrates a more intense exploration of basic shapes and colour in juxtaposition with expressive and organic painting approaches. It is the balance between the two that creates an exciting visual. As it applies to the Self, a journey of self-discovery can simultaneously feel like one is embarking on an entirely new sense of well-being and existence, but deep down, there are still basic core values and authentic belief systems that we each possess that come along for the journey and become a part of who we are becoming in our journey of self-discovery.
